Mischa Daniels in Bangkok for first Ministry of Sound Sessions event

Retox and Enap are proud to present the first in an exciting new series of events at 808: Ministry of Sound Sessions.

One of the most respected names in clubbing today, the Ministry of Sound is back in Bangkok with a vengeance. Stepping up for deck duties at the opening night on March 20 will be Dutch supremo Mischa Daniels.

Having collaborated with Mischa has been musical his whole life. At the age of seven he started playing the trumpet and any other instrument he could get his hands on. By the time he was 12 years old he had played his first DJ gig and by age 16 he had won a Dutch DJ contest live on national radio.

Although he graduated with a degree in real estate, the only house Mischa was concerned about came with a four-four beat and was his weapon for ripping apart dance floors.

Mischa has gone through years of sonic schooling, including residencies in his home country while dabbling with producing beats since his teens.

“It’s a real adventure choosing what direction is right for you,” said Mischa. “I always liked that about music.”

Mischa’s debut release Pumping Groover on WORK Records, sold by the bucketload and WORK immediately signed him up. Half a dozen more releases and his sound had caught the attention of a number of big-name record labels. In 2005, Armada Music (Armin Van Buurens’ Label) signed Mischa and got him to start his own label with them: Fame.

The years of grafting away in the studio have finally paid off and Mischa is now a household name around the world having scored a number 1 in the Brazilian dance chart for his collaboration with Atomic Kitten star Natasha Hamilton, Round and Round, which also made it into the top 10 of the US dance chart.

Constantly working on his style, Mischa’s sets progress through pumping beats and sweet disco loops to sweeping, edgy soundscapes. Mischa describes his sound as “house, slightly progressive house, tribal house, but it’s got to have energy.

“I love what Erick Morillo does – combining huge diva vocals from the likes of Jocelyn Brown with house music and tribal beats,” he added.

Mischa’s love of all things Morillo came back at him when his 2006 production Take Me Higher appeared on the Subliminal Sessions 10 album, earning Mischa the honour of becoming the first Dutch producer to be featured in the hugely popular mix series.

Mischa has spent the past few years remixing the likes of Armin van Buuren, Chicane, Natasha Bedingfield, Sophie Elles Bextor, Roger Sanchez, Tom Novy, Kaskade and Alex Gaudino. Last summer, he compiled a compilation for Pacha’s biggest series: Summer Anthems 2008.

Mischa’s Fame label boasts tracks and remixes by the likes of Rooster & Sammy Peralta, Eddie Amador and Tom de Neef, as well as Mischa’s remixes of classic tunes, such as Yavahn’s Everybody be Somebody.

The success of his productions, the label and a busy gigging schedule keep Mischa a busy boy.

“This is the only thing I want to do – it’s music all the way,” he said.

Misha is also enjoying the success of his recent smash featuring Crown: Another Place. The track’s frisky, infectious beats have been hammered by everyone from Axwell, Laidback Luke and John Dahlback to Eddie Thoneick, Sander van Doorn and Marco V.

As well as an album set for release on Ultra Records some time next year, Mischa has just been announced as the fashion ambassador for Intoxica, a new couture clothing brand from Paris.

And to think, he nearly became an estate agent.
